Aquest Colsen has designed and constructed a pilot plant for the demonstration of the Thermophilic Digestion process of waste water sludges for eThekwini Water and Sanitation (Durban). The Thermophilic digestion process has proven to provide higher gas yields due to higher conversion of volatile solids in waste water sludge. Application of the Thermophilic digestion process is an important process choice towards energy self sufficiency of waste water treatment works. The technology is from an economic point of view often the preferred solution, when compared with alternative technologies.
Within the Colsen group, we have developed a unique heating and mixing facility for a digester, which enables very stable temperature management in the digester. Stable temperature management is a requirement to operate a thermophilic digestion process successfully.
After technical commissioning of the pilot plant, Aquest Colsen will operate the digester and perform a 6 month research period. During this period, extensive testing and sampling program will allow us to build up useful data and information regarding the benefits of the thermophilic digestion process, applied on sludge from a medium sized waste water treatment works in South Africa. The results of the research phase will be shared at relevant sector conferences. For more information, do not hesitate to contact us.
